here’s the plan, Stan

So once the fireplace has gone all hasta la vista baby…

we are having a cabinet built to take its place.

My inspiration came from the photo below…but for the life of me I can’t find the original source so I can’t credit it.

If you know the source, leave me a comment and I will link it up.

You know how marriage is about give and take and compromise?

Well, here’s the deal…

I pretty much have total freedom with decisions on the renovation…

for better or worse…my husband has blind faith in me. 😉

But his ONE request…

was an 80 inch television.

I know.

That is one BIG mamma jamma.

my brilliant designer at Advance Design Studio took that photo and designed a cabinet that would house an 80″ tv and give me some pretty bookshelves as well!

The cabinet is 12 feet long and because this oddball bowling alley room is 30 feet long, this piece will look proportional.

Mucho better than the fireplace, no?

And now the tv won’t have to block the door which I’m pretty sure was a big ol FAUX PAS!

Man, I’m SO multi-lingual today. 😉

The existing bookcases that were located on the opposite side of the room have been ripped out.

They took up valuable wall space and were not well made. The whole thing kind of slanted to one side.

They looked like something crazy Uncle Vinnie would build after knocking back a few cocoas. 😉

The plan for the rest of the room?

Currently, the walls and ceilings are plaster and look like an archaeological dig site.

There are cracks and crevices and lumps and bumps…

I’m half expecting Abe Lincoln to come busting through at any moment.

So the walls and ceilings will be planked.

Similar to the cottage, but horizontal.

Cause hey…why not live on the edge?

Well, folks…there you have it.

Everything you never wanted to know about the future of our family room.

Back soon with details of what’s going on upstairs…

I love that you – go big or go home! I have 4 color samples of paint and I can’t commit! I like seeing the updates- I get to live vicariously! The cabinet design is great. Are you building the cabinets around whats left of the chimney or is that going too?

Thanks, Wendy…Oh paint colors, they are the worst! I’d rather demo a room than choose a paint color! 😉 No, the whole thing is coming out!

Now that’s a TV…just think when you’re watching Nashville, it’ll be just like you’re right there with them! 😉

Everything is looking so amazing, I cannot wait to see it finished…I for one am someone who can’t wait to see ‘everything about the future of your family room!’ Can’t wait to see the horizontal planked walls, it’s going to all be so pretty!

ps…is that the Pottery Barn swing arm lamp I see in the corner? I’ve been eyeing that one, would you recommend it?

I just said to the Hubs, hey have you ever heard of an 80″ TV and he said with way too much enthusiasm “yah, Costco has them!!!!” …..hey gotta ask why both your home and your cottage has doors on either side of the fireplace…I’ve never seen that before? Do you use them both? I am loving your re-do worthy of a magazine article…

    • Maple & Magnolia February 28, 2014 at 4:20 pm #

Uh oh, Kathy…I see a big tv in your future!!!

    Dear Susan,
Have been following you for a while and REALLY LOVE what you do and HOW you do it!! C’est Tres Bonne!!!…for that bit of “continental flair”. But I MUST comment on how comfortable RILEY looks in the pics of the living room – on the couch no less –despite all the ruckus going on around her!! She still manages to keep her kool no matter what!! Now that’s a STAR!!!:-)))
Keep it coming, m’dear – its makes my day- truly!!
