So yesterday, the tv was installed in the cottage at the “optimal viewing height.”

With 9 foot ceilings, it left the top of the wall a little too bare for my taste.

Kind of like putting on a cute outfit but forgetting your earrings.

Obviously, nothing is styled.

And cords showing is the decorating equivalent of walking around with your skirt stuck in the back of your pantyhose. Not that I really ever wear either of those…but I digress.

The options of what to put up there are very limited. A barn light seemed like an obvious choice.

So I played around with photoshop to see what it would look like.

Here are two options…

option1 option2

To me there is a clear winner.

But I like to get other people’s opinions.

Especially if they agree with me. ;)

Would you take 5 seconds and vote for your favorite?

Thanks a bunch.

Will you be turning on the light over the TV or is it for looks? Hop over to Nubury Lane blog and she has a bunch of art over hers in her family room and you might like what she did.

I will only be turning it on when the tv isn’t on. It’s really just for visual interest and dimension.

What about sconces on the sides of the tv and family pictures framed above the tv or other art work placed bordering top of TV? Just an idea.

  16. david February 14, 2014 at 3:19 am #

hmmmm, my first instinct was the black one. But now that people have pointed out that the galvanized one goes better with the table I can see the appeal. OK, I’ll join the crowd and go galvanized

I’m not much for the light but I know you know what you’re doing. I’d go with galvanized.

  30. lisa diaz February 14, 2014 at 5:01 am #

I really like Option 2! I am a like modern decor rather than a country look for the galvanized.

  31. Honey Sleight February 14, 2014 at 5:19 am #

    Black definetly!

  32. Tammy February 14, 2014 at 5:49 am #

No preference on the light but I think I’m being influenced by thinking a light is not the qay to go on this….IMHO which doesnt count anyway. : )

  33. Christy February 14, 2014 at 5:49 am #

Can I come live in your guest cottage? I like the galvanized finish better. :)

  34. pamela February 14, 2014 at 7:06 am #

    Definitely #1

  35. Kay February 14, 2014 at 7:18 am #

Sorry, the light over the TV seems too “committed” for me. How about omitting the light and leave the area available for seasonal wreaths/ decor, arrangement of plates/art work, etc.
I know your end result will be great!

  36. Our Family Inspired Home February 14, 2014 at 12:12 pm #

I like option 2, the black one. I love your table, too!

  37. Sherry Hart February 14, 2014 at 12:15 pm #

I prefer the galvanized …..but not sure I wouldn’t like to see an old sign or something either!

  38. Marianne Davies February 14, 2014 at 1:49 pm #

    Option 1 for sure !

  39. Terri February 14, 2014 at 1:58 pm #

Galvanized… without a doubt!!! Can’t wait to see how the table is going to look!! Will It be staying there????

  40. Patricia Mason February 14, 2014 at 2:15 pm #

I love the galvanized too, but I wonder if you’ll really ever use the light ? Even when the TV’s not on…..trying to think of another option, but can’t come up with one right now…..brain is frozen (I’m in Cleveland – what can I say ? We don’t get out much this winter !! )

  41. Shae February 14, 2014 at 3:01 pm #

    The top galvanized one!!

  42. Cara Fox February 14, 2014 at 3:42 pm #

    # 1 is what I would call a winner winner chicken dinner!!

  43. Robin W. February 14, 2014 at 5:56 pm #

  44. Traci February 14, 2014 at 6:15 pm #

I am going to buck the current trend and vote for #2 option, the black light shade. To me, the galvanized shade is too trendy, and will magically be “out” before too long. Thanks for asking, it was fun.

  47. Starla February 14, 2014 at 10:11 pm #

I definite like the galvanized option better.:)

  48. Terri February 14, 2014 at 10:22 pm #

I think the galvanized for sure.

  49. Mary S. February 14, 2014 at 11:09 pm #

    1

  50. Ann February 15, 2014 at 2:12 pm #

I vote black. I love galvanized but in this case I vote black.

  51. Dee February 15, 2014 at 3:10 pm #

I’m going to buck the popular consensus and go with the black one unless you don’t mind changing it out within the year when the galvanized trend is old and dated. The light is a classic shape that won’t go out of style, but I am already tired of seeing d├ęcor that looks like it belongs in my pasture.

  52. Jenna February 15, 2014 at 10:51 pm #

    Option 1 for sure!!!

  53. Kelly Griglione February 19, 2014 at 6:47 pm #

Galvanized, without a doubt. The black light calls attention to the TV since it matches the color, and that’s generally not something most people want to highlight in decorating : ) Also since the black matches in #2, the whole vignette looks too top heavy. Like you put on earings, a hat, chunky necklace, eye shadow, blush and lipstick, to go with your person analogy : )
