Go ahead and get the tune of the Allman BrothersΒ “Lawd, I was born a ramblin’ man….” going in your head.

This post is all over the map rambly.

We’re fixin to talk about sales and renovations and skirts blowin up and Brady bathrooms and Grey Gardens and gold polka dotted burlap and much-ado-about-nothin-pins and deer.

Ya ready?

Haven’t been posting much lately…

Not much to share, our house is in complete disarray.

Out with the old” is my motto of late.

If I’m tired of it, it’s outta here…and straight to Urban Farmgirl!

This whole set-up sold last weekend…

as did this…

It makes me happy to see things that I’m tired of go to new homes! πŸ™‚

And on that note…this pretty thing is ready for a new home as well.

If you are local and would like to purchase it ($225) shoot me an email. mapleandmagnolia@gmail.com

I will mark it sold when it’s claimed.

I’ve decided that rather than having a house/room full of pieces that I feel like this about….

Thank you Riley, for that lovely demonstration...

I’m living with empty spaces until something that blows my skirt up comes along!

Who knows…maybe I’ll even become a minimalist!

bwahahahahahahahahaha…did you like that one?

In other news, we are posssssssssibly going to be renovating the upstairs.

The Brady bathrooms must go.

Walls must come down.

Dressing rooms must be demolished…

You know, to make way for a big ol’ soaking tub.

Along these lines…

It’s exciting.

And terrifying.

Have I ever told you that I’m a hermit/homebody and don’t like strangers in my house?

It’s true.

Picture Grey Gardens without the cobwebs or cats or raccoons…

or weird scarf…

hee hee.

To get that icky mental picture out of your head, I’ll leave you with a little easy project I finished yesterday for my office.

Have you seen the burlap with gold polka dots at JoAnn’s???

I’ve been out of the burlap phase for about 2 years now, but this stuff made me change my tune….

Just enough sparkle to rock my world. πŸ™‚

IMG_6027 copy

It’s taking the place of the infamous paint chip calendar.

Actually I took that calendar down about 2 weeks after I made it.

I just wasn’t feelin it.

Let me switch into Joan Rivers mode for five seconds… (I’m pinching my face real tight as I say, CAN WE TAWK???)

This stupid paint chip calendar has been pinned thousands of times and has been viewed on this blog…

wait for it….

227, 195 times.

So. weird.

And before I sign off…

I think it’s about time for the latest deer photos…

my daughter does not understand my fascination with them…

“Mom…we have deer in our yard every day. What’s the big deal?”

I took this one the other morning out my office window…

we have a huckleberry tree out front and this same deer comes here for breakfast and dinner every day. You can set your watch to her.

It’s Egypt hot outside and Arctic cold inside…hence the condensation on the window. πŸ˜‰

And I snapped this one today…

this mama deer has two of the teeniest little babies I’ve ever seen. Like smaller than Riley wobbly legged Bambi tiny.

They are a little camera shy.

What can I say?

Here at Grey Gardens this is entertainment at its finest.

Back soon.

Hopefully with a more interesting and cohesive post…

but probably not. πŸ˜‰

It’s nice to clean out the house to make room for some fun new stuff. Recently found your blog and I love it. Good luck on the bathrooms! I hope for a soaking tub some day too!

  2. Gina July 17, 2013 at 3:13 pm #

That would be fabulous to have a way to easily sale “the old” while waiting on “the new.” πŸ™‚ I get your fascination with the deer. We have them too and I continue to take pictures occasionally. I have photos of deer, squirrels, woodpeckers, rabbits, and even a bear!! Guess if I still had young children around I wouldn’t be so interested in photographing wild life. πŸ˜‰

    First…LOVE Grey Gardens!
Second, I am so ready for some changes around my house too! Wish I lived closer because some of your “olds” would be some of my “news”!!
    Have fun changing things up!

  4. Marianne in Mo. July 17, 2013 at 10:25 pm #

First, tell your daughter that at least a few of us enjoy your wildlife shots. Second, love the apt description of the weather dome we Midwesterners are under now – Egypt hot is probably right, though I’ve never been, so what do I know? Third, and lastly, random thoughts are my life…join the club! ;0)

Must be something in the air… πŸ˜‰

That buffet is gorgeous and if I lived closer and had a place for it it would be sold. I too get excited seeing deer in our yard, but it is only occasionally not daily. I would love one of those tubs. Can’t get hubby on board to rip out the old.

  7. L Nelson July 18, 2013 at 3:02 am #

Ummm. You had me for life at “so. Weird.” :0
    I enjoy random.
It’s Egypt hot here in eastern Ut as well. Not any humidity to speak of here…..
    BUT I love the summer!
That’s for the smile. Good luck on the redo!

    • L Nelson July 18, 2013 at 3:04 am #

Err I meant ” thanks” for the smile. πŸ™‚

Oh shoot, your old stuff would make me think I was in heaven, ooooh to be able to buy even one piece of your old stuff. Good stuff is hard to find where we live and if I can find it the prices are absolutely ridiculous, even at thrift stores. We live west of Grand Junction, CO, between property prices and anything else you’d think the streets were paved with gold and it’s hotter than heck in summer.
We lived in western KY for 5 yrs, so many incredible awesome pretties at reasonable affordable prices. Now that we’re seniors on SS our disposable income is nil, especially here. We had a 3 bdrm, 1 1/2 bath house with 1 1/2 acres of land we bought for $55,000 in 99′. Our place here is 1/2 acre with a 3bdrm/2 full baths single wide mfg. home. for $120,000 in 2006, we were very lucky to find that out in the country. I still miss our wonderful house in KY.
Good luck selling all your pretties, enjoy yours new. Happy summer

I forgot, are you the blogger that posted the hilarious pic of the deer with the shredded chair on it’s head? I still have that pic on my frig, it gives me a good giggle every day. Love seeing pics of your deer, other assorted wild life.. I might have told you about the antelope, deer and coyotes that came up to our house in MT.

    • Maple & Magnolia July 18, 2013 at 8:43 pm #

JaneEllen, yep that was me…never saw that poor fella again. Hopefully the hammock worked its way off! Now I’ll bet you’ve got some awesome wildlife in MT. I’ve always wanted to visit…maybe one of these days! πŸ™‚

  10. Anne July 18, 2013 at 4:49 am #

Can’t wait to see your bath…it’s going to be fabulous!
Hey- if you get rid of that pine cabinet with the blue inside(you got from us), let me know! You put your ironstone pitchers in it. I think of that cabinet ALL the time. I love that piece. I hope you haven’t already sold it!

    – I love that Riley is saying “Meh”…too funny!!

    • Maple & Magnolia July 18, 2013 at 8:42 pm #

That is one of the very, very few pieces that I won’t ever part with. I still love it.
      BUT…if I ever do… πŸ˜‰

      • Anne July 18, 2013 at 8:47 pm #

Totally understand!! I can’t believe I let it go. I’m actually so glad to hear you say you love it…it is such a unique piece and should be loved! You know where to find me if things change:)

I live in the West Central part of Illinois,we are known for deer and corn fields here. I love animals and wild life so you keep giving your nature pictures too. Though I do prefer your decor. I’m a hermit & homebody and don’t like strangers in my house, I can’t help it! It’s my comfort zone. I don’t mind your ramble because I enjoy Maple and Magnolia.

  12. karen July 18, 2013 at 11:48 am #

Thanks for cluing me in on Grey Gardens some how I missed that one. I’ve got to see the original one and the HBO version too. I used to work in Chicago and had many Clients that were very similar to the B gals. I was always so curious about what happened to them. Seriously they would come in with smelly old moth eaten fur coats and out of date Ferragamo shoes ,messy make up including red lipstick and think they were the Sh**! It was obvious that at one time they had money and maybe they still did, what do I know?
I always passed it off as mental illness. Kinda sad but VERY curious.
    Here’s a wiki link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_Gardens
    Love your Blog!!!

I’m seriously wanting to move near to you for the sole reason of buying ALL of your castoffs. As in EVERYTHING. Unsuccessfully attempting to erase all the jealousness in my heart towards your neighbors….

  14. Anne July 18, 2013 at 2:41 pm #

Great memo board! I have not been out much lately….it’s too darn hot! I should check out that polka dot burlap….so cute! Oh we have lots of deer around us too.Not so much in our yard. They like to dart out in front of your car as you are driving. And one very recently almost ran us over as we were taking a stroll through our neighborhood!

  15. Laura July 18, 2013 at 2:50 pm #

I definitely understand the change. I get sick of things, too and when you are a homebody, you look at at A LOT!! Can’t wait to see what you do. xo Laura

  16. Lori July 18, 2013 at 3:43 pm #

Cohesive shmohesive! I love your rambling posts. πŸ™‚
Sounds like exciting things will be happening in your home soon.
My husband and I enjoy your deer pics also. Those babies are the sweetest aren’t they?!

  17. Stacey@A Sort Of Fairytale July 18, 2013 at 9:57 pm #

Grey Gardens….too funny. What a whack job story that is! I’ll be looking forward to seeing more changes at your house, friend!!!!

  18. Linda S. in NE July 19, 2013 at 2:37 am #

I’m surprised no one has commented on the frosty-humidity window deer picture. I LOVE it. If it were mine, I would do an enlargement and frame it professionally, and have it proudly on display somewhere in my home. It is really fascinating!! Love all your wildlife photos even though I live in the country, and have plenty of my own wildlife to enjoy.

  19. Jen Rippinger July 20, 2013 at 12:26 am #

Love the photo and commentary from Reily!! Somebody was punchy were they were blogging! Love it!

    • Jen Rippinger July 20, 2013 at 12:27 am #

  20. Laurie Quesenberry July 22, 2013 at 3:36 pm #

Susan, I just stumbled across your blog and I LOVE it! I had to go back and read every post (well, maybe not every). You are a hoot! I love your sense of humor and your sense of style. I am a former northern Illinois girl transplanted to the south and now living across the lake from Toronto in Western NY, so I can relate. And Riley…oh my, she is darling. Look forward to more!

  21. david July 23, 2013 at 4:50 pm #

I still use mine but I totally know what you mean about the Paint Chip Calendar craziness. I swear half of my blog hits are people coming from your blog!
Looking forward to hearing about renovation plans (although, based on past posts, I kind of imagined you would just “find” a new master bathroom hidden somewhere in your enormous manse).
Ramble away – your posts are always great!

  22. Hope July 27, 2013 at 3:39 am #

You had me at “fixin.” Been missin’ your posts lately. Glad to catch up on your fancy-ness.

  23. tricia@littlecottageonthepond August 14, 2013 at 1:44 pm #

Love those pictures! It’s Egypt hot here too….so ready for fall!

  24. missy August 15, 2013 at 1:41 am #

Ha ha ha!! I was totally humming ‘Ramblin’ Man’ before I even scrolled down to your first words.

Ugh! I hate people in my house, too. Not good when you live in an old money pit!

    Love your blog.

  25. Chris Hough September 28, 2013 at 9:57 pm #

I’m with you, I can’t get enough of the deer in our yard, either! Love your site, by the way. Thanks for your cheery posts and how to projects. I am working on moving my scrapbook room to the formal dining room, which never got used anyway. Now I will have floor to ceiling windows along two walls and closer proximity to the ‘fam’. A much better space than a small upstairs bedroom! Happy DIY-ing!

  26. Judy October 11, 2013 at 10:43 am #

I miss you! Just fell in love with your blog last year. Great pictures and ideas.

  27. Kristie October 16, 2013 at 6:25 am #

I agree with Judy…I miss you. I just love your style and all your ideas.

We all need a break. Hoping all is well with you and your family. Looking forward to seeing you again.

  28. Gina October 18, 2013 at 7:45 pm #

Missing you blogging Susan!! Hope everything is well. πŸ™‚
