I collect things.
But I don’t like “collectibles.”
Clear as mud?
I collect utilitarian items. You know, things that get used.
One of my most treasured possessions, is a pair of my grandmother’s black handled fabric scissors. Everytime I use them to cut a piece of fabric, I smile and think of her.
I think most any object when displayed in an artful bunch is beautiful.
Like paintbrushes.
And keys.
And doorknobs (I stole borrowed this idea from my good friend Carol…she has several HUGE jars of old doorknobs).
Mine are in an old battery jar.
And suitcases and blankets and boots…
And silver baby cups and trophies and cameras and clocks and hotelware….
What do you collect?

I collect old door knobs too but thanks too you I now know how to display them!
Yes… utilitarian objects. I think it makes me feel a tinsy bit better about the purchase. I love and collect many of the same things you do… hotel silver, baby cups, suitcases, blankets, iron stone, wood spoons and on the list goes. I love how you put the door knobs in a batter the jar! Very clever and cute.
Well, today began a new collection, I think. I stopped at an estate sale and bought a metal toy pick up truck. It has great patina and possibilities…decorate it for Christmas display, use in the bathroom for soap, turn it into a candy dish…and I am still thinking. On the web I saw a peddle car fitted with a light and hung over a table. For smaller scale rooms, how about using a larger size toy truck? Who would have thunk it but, I love my new truck!
Sarah…look how my friend Stacey decorates toy trucks for Christmas! http://asortoffairytalegirl.blogspot.com/2012/11/sort-of-fairytale-news-and-shop-opening.html
My friends and I like to go to estate sales. Recently I have been drawn to old stools I bought my first one 3 months ago I now have 5. They are all different some have chippy paint and some are stained.
great things to collect. love your style. so great seeing you last night!!
You too, Traci! Love my new prints!
Dust, seems like I collect that….and I am assimilating items from the farm. Slowly I acquire things from the family farm, so I reckon I am collecting farm items? And dust;)
You have awesome collections and you have a gift in displaying them. Hmm, I collect vintage wooden spools, rosaries, mason jars (especially aqua), ironstone and galvanized containers. My collections have room for growth and I would love to find old door knobs. Yours are very cool.
I love your collections! And I like the idea of collecting “used” items. I’m not quite sure what I collect. I guess books would be the item I collect and keep.
I like to collect copper pieces like tea kettles and watering cans, skeleton keys, door knobs, milk glass, frames, typewriters, watch faces, buttons and antique silver pieces. I’m sorry for the late comments, I just learned about your blog today (you’d think I live under a rock, huh) and am just overjoyed and inspired. Thank you!
